We Want Fallout New Vegas 2, But Not Like This

10 hours, 33 minutes - Ever since Obsidian and Bethesda found themselves under the same roof at Xbox, a proper follow-up to Fallout: New Vegas has been tantalisingly possible, but it never seemed like a priority for either company. Well, that's reportedly about to change: reports from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier indicate that Obsidian Entertainment is officially working on a new Fallout project, with New Vegas director Josh Sawyer back at the helm. While this is the exact holy grail of RPG announcements that we've all been hoping for, it has come at an unfathomable cost, amid mass layoffs at Xbox and an absolute gutting of talent at both of their beloved RPG stables.New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has mandated the studios in her charge to start playing the hits, meaning more Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Halo. This is arguably something that should have happened years ago, before laying off hundreds of the developers who actually build these things. But her predecessor Phil Spencer operated, as much as possible, a hands-off policy when it came to running the studios he acquired, for fear of changing their culture too much. Was this, ultimately, his downfall? And what on earth is happening to Arkane's Blade?

Fallout: New Vegas Dev Working on New Fallout Game at Obsidian - IGN Daily Fix

1 week - In today's Daily Fix:Obsidian is reportedly ditching Avowed 2 to work on a new Fallout game. As part of Xbox's big reset, developer Josh Sawyer, who worked as lead designer on fan favorite Fallout: New Vegas, will head a team at Obsidian focused on the next Fallout. The last mainline game, Fallout 4, was released in 2015. However, Bethesda has released the MMO Fallout 76 and helped produce the acclaimed Fallout TV series for Prime Video. In related news, id Software was not spared in the big Xbox reset, with more than half of its full-time staff laid off. The developer was reportedly working on pitches for a new Perfect Dark game, among others. The team had also recently released the well-received Doom: The Dark Ages. And finally, morale at Bethesda is shattered in the wake of Xbox's recent mass layoffs, with the remaining developers saying it will have a "substantial and cascading effect" on The Elder Scrolls 6.

Will Starfield Ever Get a Cyberpunk-Style Renaissance?

3 months, 1 week - Starfield's incoming major update, Free Lanes, adds a swathe of new interplanetary content to the space sim that forgot to simulate space. And it's a welcome, generous update along with the new Terran Armada DLC and an exciting new PS5 version. But let's be clear: it doesn't fundamentally change Starfield, or fix any of its perceived issues, because that very sense of immersion that makes Starfield a Bethesda game sits at the heart of why Creation Engine 3 is ill-suited to making a space game. Could Free Lanes be Starfield 2.0, and give the game a new lease of life like No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 have enjoyed? And what does it mean for The Elder Scrolls 6?
