Los Angeles Times Building Bombed
At 1:07 a.m. on October 10, 1910, the Los Angeles Times building exploded, killing 20 people. The Los Angeles Times had for years opposed demands by its workers for better wages and conditions. Many suspected that members of the labor unions had planted the bomb. In the following investigation, a private detective tracked the bombings to James and John McNamara, members of the striking union. Both protested their innocence and many believed that had been set-up. But during the middle of the trial both brothers plead guilty to the bombing. The bombing remains an important event in California labor history. |
