Sticky: Frontlines multiplayer beta preview[ 1 Comment ] 13:28 PST | Pyros | Print News I'm pleased to announce our Frontlines multiplayer beta preview, which takes a look at all aspects of the multiplayer game. If you haven't had a chance to try the game out, I highly recommend reading our preview and getting a feeling for the game. Enjoy!
The folks over at Frontlines Warfare have published an interview with Matthew Harwood, the Audio Director over at Kaos Studios. This excellent interview covers a wide range of subjects from sound samples to X-Fi support, and contains a sample track from the game. Here is a snippet from the article:
Delay and distance sounds or Level of Detail (L.O.D.) is what I am most excited about with the sound in our game. Its something that no other game is doing to this extent. The delay of gun fire and explosions is simple. When you see the flash of an explosion in the distance you will not hear it right away. There is a delay based on distance, the farther away the longer the delay. We originally did the math at 769mph or 1128ft/s (the speed of sound). You would be surprised how long of a delay at such short distances this math provides. So we speed up the delay system so you can hear the audio sooner and get the feedback, it is definitely noticeable and very fun.
I mentioned how impressive the audio and L.O.D system was in our preview, and I think it is something you really have to hear to believe. Great interview, thanks Frontlines Warfare and Matthew Harwood!

FiringSquad previews Frontlines[ Comment ] 1:32 PST | Pyros | Print News | Category: PreviewsThe folks over at FiringSquad recently had a chance to get some hands on time with Frontlines, and cranked out their impressions right here. The article doesn't really give us any new information, but touches on a variety of points ranging from the single player campaign to the graphics. Here is a snippet from the preview...
. The first Xbox 360 map was a small 16 player map that was set in a forest style setting with some industrial structures. A larger 32 player Xbox 360 map was set in a rather dirty and oppressive oil field with massive oil puddles and pipes everywhere. The PC level we played was set in a bombed out urban downtown area with whole buildings smashed against each other.
I'm guessing that the forest and city maps were Mountain Top and Gnaw, which we touched upon in our preview.

The MAG 021 was adopted in 2021 (hence the numeric designation) as the official Western Coalition light machine gun. Built on a long tradition of Western European light machine guns, it is a rugged and extremely reliable design. It uses the tried-and-true 7.62 WC machine gun round (formally 7.62mm NATO).

Kaos on the Frontlines Mechanic[ Comment ] 14:50 PST | Pyros | Print News | Category: InterviewsOver at THQ UK is an interview with Kaos Studios' senior game designer Martin Raymond, who goes into much depth about the Frontlines mechanic, what it does, how it works, and how it makes the game unique. Here is a snippet from the interview:
Whats interesting about this mechanic is that the game focuses the action on the same frontline for both teams; the action is always centered within the frontline and you always get a choice between setting up defenses at your objective or joining a offense squad towards hostile territory.
The interview touches on a lot of useful points, so I would definitely recommend checking it out!
Also included is a video that explains the mechanic.
Frank has been in the graphics industry since 1989 and has held numerous titles including ab application engineer, senior designer, product manager, and now General Manger and Lead Designer at Kaos Studios. Forming Trauma Studios in 2005, Desert Combat was developed which became a success. Since then, Trauma Studios has joined THQ and has formed a new studio which you know as Kaos Studios.
Frank Delise has been behind several major projects in the past, including Desert Combat and the R&D; program for Battlefield 2. Needless to say, there is a lot of questions one could ask about the Frontlines vision and development process, so be sure to leave a question. And if you need to familiarize yourself with the game before posing a question, check out our multiplayer beta preview.
