We've wanted to get a piece of Razer's Tarantula gaming keyboard for a long time. Its design reminds us of Microsoft's Reclusa with its blue backlighting and macro keys. Dubbed as the "Ultimate Gaming Keyboard" and even awarded an Editor's Choice over at CNET, we think it's a good time to finally put this $80 input device to the test.
But wait, Ideazon has just released their update to their MERC gaming keyboard line, with the MERC Stealth ($90). The original MERC is one of our top gaming keyboards reviewed here, and now Ideazon's secret weapon comes bigger, badder, and with backlit keys. Its hybrid design of gaming/typing keyboard with backlit keys lends itself well to the typist-by-day, gamer-by-night consumer.
Both companies have made a name for themselves in gaming peripherals and they're always on our radar when something new comes out. But what happens when you take one company's flagship product and put it in the same ring with another company's up-and-coming powerhouse? Well, you have a slapdown. No ear biting, sword swaying—just a good old-fashioned slapdown.
We'll take a real hard look at the MERC Stealth, describe it every which way we can, and record our experiences. We'll also do the same with Razer's Tarantula.
