Topic of the Week - Double XP[ 3 Comments ] Print News | Category: Site News The topic of this week's discussion is the possibility of a "double XP" event. Other MMOs have introduced special events on holidays and some weekends that give players double the experience for defeating enemy creatures. Is this the sort of thing you'd like to see in FFXI? Let us know!
Recently, we have been contacted by a small number of players who had an unknown third party log in to their PlayOnline account. This has resulted in lost items, gil, or even deleted characters.
These reports triggered a prompt investigation by Square Enix, which is ongoing. In the course of our investigation, we have discovered that these players had apparently downloaded an unauthorized third party program from a third party website in order to gain an unfair advantage in the game. It appears that this program was actually a piece of spyware or a virus that transmitted a player's PlayOnline ID and password to a third party.
Although Square Enix is taking appropriate action to prevent further incidents from occurring, we have to remind you that any use of a third party program is a violation of the PlayOnline user agreement. We are not responsible for any negative effect on your account from any attempt to use such a program. Moreover, we will issue serious penalties when we have evidence of a third party program being used.
***Please be aware that we are cooperating with the authorities in this investigation and that the malicious creation and spread of third party programs such as the one at issue will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, including civil damages and criminal penalties.***
If you are unable to log-in with your PlayOnline account/password, or notice an unexpected change in your gil or items, please do not hesitate to contact us.
To protect your valuable characters and their data, and to also prevent you from being penalized for violating the User Agreement, please keep away from third party programs and suspicious URLs.
Hint: If a player suggests visiting a website to earn cheap gil in a chat channel, you should avoid the website and report the incident immediately so that your fellow players can be protected.
Since the implementation of the latest version update on Jun. 5, 2007, we have confirmed the following issues. Investigation and recovery work is currently underway.
- Immediately following Level 8 Besieged, the status of enemy forces is displayed as "Preparing."
- Amount of damage inflicted by the weapon skill "Catastrophe" has decreased, and does not drain target's HP.
- The "Provoke" effect from the automaton attachment Strobe has weakened.
- Corsair's ability "Loaded Deck" may miss even though there are two abilities waiting on recast.
- Unable to lock on to targets when a sub-target is selected.
- An NPC named "e" appears on the Wide Scan in Wajaom Woodlands.
-If your system is set to "12 hour time", the Vana'diel time will display 10 minutes fast in event messages.
*Vana'diel time will show up correctly in all other messages.
- Certain area names are abbreviated when using the auto-translate function.

Thursday saw the release of a new column from brand new columnist Aselin. She wrote about traveling across Vanadiel. If you missed this column there is still time to check it out.
That about wraps up our week in review, Look for some database updates and new screenshots next week. Were working our hardest to bring you all of the best FFXI news.
Wanted: Database Entries Print News | Category: Site News Were looking to expand our databases with new entries. Recently weve tried to update each database with new entries every week and now weve decided ask our readers for help. If you notice that we are missing any vital weapons, armor or monsters please feel free to submit them. You can access all of our major databases to the left sidebar under our poll.
After three years playing this game, it is a blessing to have the many different forms of transportation provided to us. We are given the opportunity to use a Chocobo, yeleports, warps, ships and ferries, and various items that provide similar effects. Compared to other games I have played, namely role-playing games, this game has the most forms of transportation that I have seen so far.
In FFXI, the basic form of transportation is something we do practically every day in real life, walking and running. This can get you to a lot places in Vana' diel, but not across bodies of water, of course. You can definitely walk from San dâOria to Windurst, but why would you? The time that it would take between any two nations is very counter-productive, especially going to or from Windurst.
Thus, next we have the ferries that take us between the two continents of Mindartia and Quon. The ferries are located in Selbina and Mhaura, which are usually the first two towns we encounter in this game before we reach Jeuno or other Nations that we don't call home.
The other ferry ride that is also provided to us is the ferry to Al Zahbi, and the ferry from Aht Urghan Whitegate, to Nashmau. These two ferries are most likely not immediately available to low level players at the beginning, unless they have high level assistance from other players.
Kotakuite Cory stumbled across them in a New York City bookstore last night. He writes:
First is the FFXI "Leader Style" guide.... I am very inclined to believe it is some kind of "how to lead a party" guide for FFXI. It was printed sometime in 2006. However, the much more ridiculous one is the second one. Printed just this year, it is the FFXI Fashion Guide, bringing you the hottest fashions from around Vana'diel. I would have loved to see more of either of these, but they were plastic wrapped shut and cost $25 each to buy.
These type of guides (first and third party) aren't terribly uncommon in Japan, but do beg the question: why hasn't Square Enix done a DIY Final Fantasy hairdo book? Just think of the how-tos and the walk-thrus!
A large-scale version update was conducted earlier today.
In addition to Aht Urhgan mission-related content, this update?s lineup includes adjustments to Chains of Promathia mission difficulty, a new massively multiplayer battlefield, never-before-seen enemies and equipment, additional merit point categories, and more!

Topic of the Week - Player Interviews[ Comment ] Print News | Category: Site News This week's topic of the week is one part investigation and one part journalistic fantasy. Does the idea of player interviews intrigue you? is this the type of feature you would like featured here at the vault? please let us know by sounding off in our Topic of the Week!
Week in Review Print News | Category: Site News We've revived our weekly recap of the hot news that has made the rounds here at the vault. Without any delay here is the shake down of the top news for June 1st, 2007:
On Thursday we posted our final wrap-up of the Cos-Play panel that was held last week. We also got news that the world maintenance had been rescheduled.
Wednesday brought news that Merit Point Adjustments were going to be taking place in the next version update. We also got news that the Final XI team would be attending Anime Expo 2007. Could we have started a trend? ^_^, We also posted three new screenshots on Wednesday.
Monday we posted the first photo-gallery from our live event this past weekend. Some great costumes were shown off and we have photos of all of them including the top three winners. We also got news of a new battlefield on Monday!
In the upcoming version update, we plan to introduce a multitude of items and synthesis recipes that will open the door to new weapons and armor with graphics unlike anything you've ever seen before!
We will also be giving players another chance to obtain the rewards from selected quests and missions they have already completed.
Live Event: Panel Wrap-Up[ 1 Comment ] Print News | Category: Site News We would like to thank everyone who turned out for our panel at Anime North this past weekend. The room was packed with over 65 Final Fantasy fans and we all had a great time. During the panel many important topics about the Final Fantasy series were raised including:
* Where should the series be heading: Turn based versus Real Time
* Do the portable iterations of Final Fantasy do the series justice?
* Whats your favourite Final Fantasy Character?
The Crowd Waits
Near the end of the sixty minute panel we focused on Final Fantasy XI. Three vault readers came to its defense right away and brought up a point that most in the room agreed with: The job system in FFXI is very flexible and can lead to hours of re-playability. Many fans said that they would be willing to give Final Fantasy XI a second look if only they knew more about it. Luckily we were on hand to inform them about it ^_^!
The last half an hour of the event was dedicated to the costume awards. Fourteen people entered the cosplay contest and in the end we chose Ash, Cloud and Fran (from FFXII). We were happy to provide each of them with a 30 day subscription to Final Fantasy XI and of course weve got their picture below.
Our Winners!
Thanks to everyone for making this event such a success and we will see you all next year.
In the soon-to-be released version update, we plan to introduce "Group 2" abilities for the blue mage, corsair, and puppetmaster jobs. We will also be increasing the maximum limit for point allocation in the "Combat Skills" and "Magic Skills" merit point categories for all jobs.
FINAL FANTASY XI will be on hand at this year's Anime Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center on June 29th through July 2nd! Come dressed as your favorite FINAL FANTASY XI character for a chance to win a Treasures of Aht Urhgan PC from the Anime Expo Masquerade! We'll also be selling some really exciting FINAL FANTASY XI merchandise at the booth that you won't want to miss.
