No Final Fantasy XI For Wii  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: News
PalGN has run a story about FFXI on the Wii. In an interview director Hiromichi Tanaka confirmed that the reason the Wii could not handle FFXI was because of the Nintendo Friend Codes.

The article also states that Square is in negotiations with Nintendo about using their online structure without the use of friend codes. A port of FFXI could be in the new console's future if this hurdle can be overcome.

Hiromichi Tanaka revealed that the Wii hardware wouldn’t be able to cope with Final Fantasy XI, clarifying that the main problem lies within Nintendo’s current online stance, where you are unable to interact with other players without the aid of friend codes. However, Tanaka was quick to point out that the company is currently in negotiations with Nintendo to resolve the pain of using friend codes.

  Next Gen FF Online Possible?
Print News | Mail News | Category: News
In an interview about Final Fantasy XIII Hiromichi Tanaka let news slip that a next gen MMORPG is in the works.

Could this be based upon the Final Fantasy franchise? We sure hope so given the success of FFXI on the PC and 360.

Pro-G: Aside from RPGs, do you have a favourite type of game or console you like to play?

HT: Before I really liked scrolling shooting games but now I only play Final Fantasy XI!

Pro-G: So what are you working on now? Any plans for the future?

HT: I'm still working on XI as it's on-going but we are also working on a next-generation MMORPG for 360 and Vista but PS3 is a possibility.

Brand New Column - Survival Tips
Print News | Mail News | Category: Site News

Our newest staff columnist Calion has posted a brand new column. This column, titled Survival Tips, shows you to survive in the world of FFXI. We've got a small portion of the column below. Please click here to read the full column.

Lets face it, folks. We’ve all died at least once or twice in the world of Vana ‘Diel. Whether it’s an unlucky amount of mobs with aggro around you, or it’s a bold move of yours that doesn’t turn out right, it’s a frustrating event. I’ve found that more times than not, deaths are the product of poor preparation. That is why I have come up with this guide on proper preparation.

Vista on FFXI? It's Now Possible  [ 1 Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: News
IGN Boards regular Whogie has had great success with running FFXI on Vista. We've got his post below:

Got it running! Just copy a fully updated Playonline folder from a computer with a previous version of Windows into your Vista installation of FFXI. Recreate your profile (so it doesn't forget your password each time), and let it update forever (it'll want to check all of your files).

I just dug up dragon meat playing Chocobo Hot & Cold on my Vista machine. I've run into no quirks. XP Compatibility Mode isn't even enabled.

Read the thread here.
