It seems there is a wee bug over on the training room that allows you to run the introductory story arc for the invention system. The post on the official forums goes into pretty good details about how to access the missions as well as everything else you need to do to complete the arc. If you don't want to ruin the suprise for when Issue 9 rolls around, don't look! But for everyone else, you can read the dirt right here.

  Test Patch Notes - 01/29/07  [ 2 Comments ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: City of Heroes
The test server rolled out one patch to the live server and is now testing another one on the Training Room. This patch that landed on the test server last night fixes a bunch of animation problems as well as rooting and power times. There is also apparently a fix for the cape issue which seemed to be causing a lot of crashes. Here's to hoping it fixes it for everyone like me who crap out every twenty minutes of play. You can read the full test patch notes here.

Topic of the Week - The Grind  [ 6 Comments ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: City of Heroes
Now that the double XP weekend is over, it's time to bring up that age old question: Should leveling be faster in CoX? What about debt? Leave it or totally remove it? To me it seems that leveling for the first 15-20 levels is a good pace but after that it can get so tiresome. Case in point it took me god knows how long to get my 50 there from only 46 or 47. I understand that farming portal missions is the quickest way to ding the last few levels, but seriously why should that be? Even doing it that way is long and tedious. Too long, IMO. Also on the subject of debt, I 'd like to see an option to have all the XP go to paying it off like it does when you are exemped, but without needing to be. Anywhoo...enough rambling, what are your thoughts?

  Patch Notes - 01/25/07  [ 2 Comments ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: City of Heroes
When logging on to the servers today, you will find yourself taking a little bit of extra time as a 13 Meg patch is downloaded. The patch was on Test for a pretty short time but seems to be running well enough to release. The patch feature a numerous amount of change and fixes, ranging from mission glitches to power animation faux pas and base rent changes. I hope this is the patch that fixes my crashing and allows me to play more than 20 minutes at a time. For a full list of fixes and changes and all the sweet new features this patch brings to you, you can check out the patch notes on the official site!

We here at the Vault have whipped up a little CoX cheer to add to your desktops. This is the first in a series of desktop Calendar wallpapers you will be seeing from us. This one is just to give a giggle and show that some heroes have their own priorities, not all of which saving lives comes first. Be on the look out for more wallpapers in the near future from both hero and villain sides of things! Enjoy!

  Issue 9: "Breakthrough"  [ 3 Comments ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: Community News
Check out the latest press release sent through the wire for City of Heroes/City of Villains 9th expansion...

Wednesday 24th January/...NCsoft Europe proudly brings you the the ninth free expansion to the City of Heroes® universe, introducing an entirely new level of depth and gameplay to the franchise.

SUMMARY:
Issue 9:  Players acquire and invent new items and have the option to buy and sell them using the new hero and villain auction houses. Along with Issue 9's other great features, this brand new system results in a wealth of new gameplay options for players.

FEATURES:
Invention System (Heroes and Villains)
Using the highly anticipated Invention system, players acquire and collect valuable resources in the form of Salvage and Invention Recipes. These will be used together to invent powerful new enhancements, costume pieces, new powers, gadgets, and more. This creates a world of new possibilities, rewards and even greater character evolution!

Auction Houses (Heroes and Villains)
Where better to buy and sell all of these new items than in the new auction houses! Wentworth's Fine Consignments have sprung up throughout Paragon City™ while the villains prefer to do their dark dealings alongside “black-market” trucks placed throughout the Rogue Isles™.

Statesman's Task Force (Heroes only)
This high-level PvE content allows eight heroes to team up in order to face and defeat Paragon's greatest enemies! Completing this difficult challenge results in some of the game's rarest rewards!

New Hamidon Encounter (Heroes and Villains)
Not only do villains get their own end-game raid encounter with the “Hamidon,” but the new experience is also brought to the Heroes side where players must use new tactics to bring down one of the city's greatest threats.

Thanks

  Site Staff Wanted  [ 2 Comments ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: Community News
Hey there guys and guyettes of the CoH Vault. I'm putting out a help wanted sign to see if anyone would be interested in helping out with the site. We could use a hand in updating the site in different areas such as badges, enemies and anything else that new Issues throw at us. I know there used to be a large support staff on the site, but I haven't seen or heard from anyone since I have taken over the reigns. If you are interested in giving the site a helping hand, drop me a line and let me know! You can contact me at [email protected]. Thanks!

Topic of the Week - Got a Question?  [ 6 Comments ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: Community News
This week's topic of the week asks you if you have a question for any of the developers of City of Heroes. Just say, hypothetically, that we were conducting an interview with members of the Cryptic Studios team, what are some questions regarding Cityof Heroes that you would like to ask them? Leave your question in a comment and who knows, maybe it will get answered! :)

Warcry.com has posted up a nice little rundown of features that can be expected to arrive in the upcoming Issue 9 :Breakthrough release from the official fact sheet sent out by NcSoft and Cryptic Studios. I suppose our copy was lost in the mail somewhere. Here's a quick list of some of the things that you will see.

  • Invention System (Heroes and Villains)
Using the highly anticipated Invention system, players acquire and collect "loot" in the form of Salvage and Invention Recipes. These will be used together to invent uber-enhancements, costume pieces, new powers, gadgets, and more. This creates a world of new activities, rewards and character evolution!

  • Auction Houses (Heroes and Villains)
Where better to buy and sell all of these new items than in the new auction houses! Wentworth's Fine Consignments have sprung up throughout Paragon City™ while the villains prefer to do their bidding alongside "black-market" trucks placed throughout the Rogue Isles.

  • Statesman's Task Force (Heroes only)
This high-level PvE content allows eight heroes to team up in order to face and defeat Paragon's greatest enemies! Completing this difficult challenge results in some of the game's rarest loot!

  • New Hamidon Encounter (Heroes and Villains)
Not only do villains get their own end-game raid encounter with the "Hamidon," but the new experience is also brought to the Heroes side where players must use new tactics to bring down one of the "City of"s greatest threats.

CoH Vault Poll - War or Peace?  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: Community News
In this week's poll, we are asking you loyal visitors what you think the best epic archetype is. Do you like the light of the Peace Bringer or the funky purple of the War Shade? Or do you think they are too similar to really care. Hit the poll and let us know! As for our last poll, we asked if you guys and guyettes thought there should be unique holiday events for each the heroes and villains side. The majority of votes said yes, that there should be. I agree, but then again, it's just more work for the developers. Ah well :)

CoH Vault Poll - Events  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: Community News
For our poll this week, we are asking you guys and guyettes about the events that CoX puts on and if you would rather see seperate events for heroes and villains. The Winter Event allowed heroes and villains to work together, but would you rather see totally different events for each side? I don't just mean the same thing on each side seperately, but two totally different events for each side. Sure it would be more work for the developers, but it's just a question. Hit the poll and let us know!

As for the previous poll, as if there was any doubt, the over whelming majority of people were quite pleased with the winter event.
