World of Warcraft Battle Plan Vol. 4 |
|
Dec 04, 2006 - 2:33 AM - by Mithan
|
Incase anybody missed the large "battleplan" post from Blizzard (its basically a letter to the community), you can check it out here. It contains a lot of info about the months ahead...
Quote:
Since our previous Battle Plan, World of Warcraft has gained a considerable amount of new in-game content, as well as improved and expanded service features -- all of which have been focused on enhancing the game experience for our passionate, ever-growing community.
One example of the new content we've added is Naxxramas, a multi-winged 40-player raid dungeon that pits players against the forces of the lich Kel'Thuzad. We've also revamped Light's Hope Chapel to make it a fully functional and exciting quest hub. In addition, many new items have been implemented, including new PvE and PvP armor sets, along with a powerful new Legendary caster item.
In terms of service enhancements, many players have taken advantage of the Paid Character Transfer service, which enables players to move characters between realms. Also, we've decreased battleground queue times by implementing the new cross-realm battleground feature. By allowing players across several realms to play in the same battleground, wait times have significantly improved for most battleground matches.

Path Warnings: UI-Mods |
|
Dec 04, 2006 - 2:26 AM - by Mithan
|
Just a reminder that tomorrow (Tuesday) the new patch is being added to WoW and with it, the upgrade to the new scripting language that will be breaking all your old UI-Mods.
Please read below for the excellent post Mithoron made for saving some of your data.
Since all existing Mods need to be pretty much recoded, it is possible that some of the Mods you have been using for months/years may be broken for a few days time, obviously affecting how you play the game in some cases.
Mithoron and I will be on the boards that day trying to help people track things down if needed, so feel free to post what you are looking for or having trouble with on the Public General Board here and we and other Guild Members will try and give you a hand. In some cases, we may host some files locally if the original site is getting hammered (I expect Cursed and CTMod to be down most of the day).
My suggestion is to try and type out what UI-Mods you have and then PM yourself the list or better yet, create an account on Cursed UI-Mods and UI.WorldofWar and then add your favorite Mods to your "Favorite" list, this makes it a lot easier for you to find the Mods you need and keep track of them when they are updated.
Lastly, there are some feature changes to some of the new UI-Mods that will affect some classes (like those that use Decursive) so you should probably familiarize yourself with the changes before doing any raids and such.

Shadowmoon Valley Screenshots |
|
Dec 02, 2006 - 4:12 PM - by Mithan
|
Here are some screenshots of Shadowmoon Valley, which is the south eastern most zone in Outlands and is also home to Illidan, who resides in The Black Temple, which is a 25 man raid instance. This zone is for 68-70 people.
For anybody who missed it earlier, here is a link to my Flying Mount video that I took.
http://www.wowhq.com/mithan/flying.mpg
Mounts are expensive and to get a flying mount, you need to get your Epic Riding Mount skill first. The good news is that a lot of gold comes from quests on your way to 70 but still, even with that, if you don't already have the Epic Riding skill trained, you are still looking at a fair amount of gold. The good news is that the Epic Riding Mount skill looks like it may be reduced to about 540 gold. The Flying Mount Skill is currently 720 gold and the Epic Flying Mount skill is 4499 gold. The actual flying mounts are 90g and 180g, respectively. These costs might be reduced but I doubt it as they are on par with the amount of gold that you seem to be getting from quests and such now.

December 5...tentative Patch Day!! |
|
Nov 30, 2006 - 7:45 AM - by Mithoron
|
Quote:
The next World of Warcraft content update, “Before the Storm,” will include the new PvP Honor System, as well as other new features that will prepare us for The Burning Crusade expansion. We are currently planning to release this content update next Tuesday, December 5. Please note that the patch date is still subject to change, and we will keep you informed of any changes to the plan as they happen.
If the patch goes live as planned, this will be the last week that new PvP ranks under the old Honor System can be earned, as the patch will immediately introduce the new Honor System. We will run one final honor calculation on December 5 and update everyone’s ranking accordingly on that date so that players who achieve a new rank for that week have the opportunity to display that title on their character. Please note, however, that no new PvP rewards will be unlocked for purchase with this final “old Honor System” calculation, regardless of any increase in rank.
For those who have been seeking high-rank PvP armor and weapons, note that the new Honor System will still include these item rewards, and it will actually be easier to earn these items under the new Honor System than under the old Honor System. Those who wish to see how their PvP abilities measure up against other players will still be able to do so under the new Arena System.

Updated Threatmeter 17.23 |
|
Nov 29, 2006 - 11:16 PM - by Mithoron
|
One of the more frustrating things as a MT is regaining Onyxia's threat during Phase 3...and we've all seen her go after various people even not on the Threatmeter. Kenco has worked on her and found out the fireball attacks she does have a threat reducing ability. As such, he's modified Threatmeter accordingly to accomodate this change.
This is a MANDATORY upgrade so I've updated the Guild Required Addons for both the General and Healer packs.
Although I realize the patch is just around the corner, we will be hitting Onyxia at least once, if not twice, before then, so hopefully we can test this out...

Patch warnings! |
|
Nov 29, 2006 - 7:54 AM - by Mithoron
|
As the day steadily approaches, we will be getting the 2.0 patch which adds an incredible amount of changes to the game. As with any patch, particularly a major patch as this, addons are going to be GREATLY affected.
This patch is going to affect EVERY Addon as the patch changes the entire way the game processes addons. This is due to the game upgrading the LUA language to 5.1...which makes many commands obsolete, adds new ones, and changes existing ones.
Most, if not all, addons will be affected by these changes when the patch is implemented
There are several things you can do now to save some anguish come patch day:
1. Backup your ADDONS and WTF foldersYou should be doing this regularly as there are many addons that have data that can become corrupted if your game crashes. Addons such as Lootlink, Auctioneer, Gatherer, and anything that saves data from one game to another should routinely be backed up. This will at least preserve the data come patch day until the author puts out a BC-compatible version. 2. Start searching for PTR/TBC betas of your addons! Many authors already have betas and expansion version of their addons in beta form on all the major addon sites. Create a "TBCAddons" folder and start downloading these betas into it. There is a good chance come the patch that if you just rename your Addons folder to "OldAddons" and your "TBCAddons" to "Addons" you will have minimal impact on your playing for patch day. 3. Be prepared for a FLOOD of addon updates...Moreso than any other patch, ALL addons are affected by these changes, so authors will be diligently putting out quick fixes and new versions of their addons for the next month after the patch...so be prepared!

December Raiding Schedule posted... |
|
Nov 27, 2006 - 1:08 PM - by Mithoron
|
A PARTIAL December Raiding Schedule has been posted. Current I do not have any 20-man raids scheduled; however, these will be filled in eventually with at least one week's notice. Additionally, MC runs will no longer require attendance from the previous raids, as this was only needed to get people to come to BWL; however, if BWL attendance declines as a result, we may go back to it.
