New Poll, read here before voting!  [ Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: Vault
We at AOV have a new idea for a contest and would like to know if you would wish to participate.

The essential idea is that a topic is picked from a pool of topics. The topics would be inititally suggested by the community in a pre-contest. One would be chosen per 1-2 weeks. It would work much like a "Topic of the Week" contest, but have a different twist to it. Each person wishing to enter writes out a small column containing their thoughts on the subject, and either posts it or sends it in privately. At the end of the week or two weeks, a panel of judges (myself and two other people I will pick out if this pans out) deliberate and agree on a winner. The winning column would get published on AOVault under a new columns section, with accompanying news post and custome teaser graphic (such as the one above the news listings) for that week or two week period. They would also be rewarded a permanent title for display on the boards.

People are not expected to be perfect writers. It's called a column because it would be published as such. It would be a person expressing what they feel about any particular subject.

People wouldn't be judged on grammar, but on content and how well someone made their point.

with that said, please cast your vote on the right side of AO Vault's front page.

  Google Ad Help
Print News | Mail News | Category: Vault
The Vault Network is asking the community to help us preserve our "Don't Destroy the Game" philosophy and mantra. Our parent company IGN has partnered with the good guys over at Google to run its "Google Ads" across all of IGN's sites, which includes the Vaults. With that comes the chance of Google running a gold seller-type ad that might slip by the existing filter we help set up to ensure these ads are blocked. Because we told Google that these gold farmer type ads suck and don't belong on the Vault Network. They were more than happy to work with us to keep such ads off our sites. So, we will be watching to make sure we remove any that happen to slip through and muck up our stuff!

There is a gold lining to this situation (pun intended!). We have a system in place where any community member can submit an ad they might see via a simple and easy web form. You only need to provide one of two pieces of information: Name of Ad and/or the Link for the Ad -- that's it. Click here to learn more and where to submit.

Winners for 'Top 10 GUI Improvements" contest  [ 1 Comment ]
Print News | Mail News | Category: Vault
This was a tough one to decide, as ALL suggestions were very good, but here are the top 10:

#1 Again, the Skill UI, making IPR and Minimize/Maximized(I think its detailed or non detailed in the UI drop down) view have a button on the UI itself instead of a drop down would be nice. Perhaps give the IPR button a nice pop-up warning that explains what your about to do and how limited this resource is when clicked. -forgotmypwagain

#2 More toolbars/hotkeys visible at screen at one time just like EQ II,WOW,Horizons etc etc allows.
One toolbar/ten icons on screen at once like we have now is WAY to few. - Dwar-Alf

#3 When I target a shop in the GMS. Sure it gives me a location pinpoint on the map. However a bar in my compass pointing the way when I enter the correct zone like mission locations receive would be very nice indeed. Especially when 2 cities have their shops back to back. -forgotmypwagain

#4 (Tie)

Bindable Keys- Totally custom bindable keys (which is a separate issue from key mapping). If I put a macro, nano or anything else in one of the boxes as described as above in point 2 (lets say #5 on the number pad) and press #5 on the key pad then whatever is in the box should activate. -Ilfixu

Remappable keyboard. Entire. WASD stinks when you are left-handed. -YushalAlDai

#5 I'm fussy about my camera, and would like a way to fine tune its setting and have that remembered in case my cat walks on the keyboard or I hit a wrong key, and could just quickly reset to my favorite setting. -Toebiter1

#6 Friends and recent messages GUI rework- This needs to be more user friendly where you can select multiple names to delete, move, other wise manipulate or record notes on. Anyone in your Org should be listed in a separate window. This Org window would have a list of players to sort. The sort would be based on rank, alphabetical, last log on, currently logged on and date joined. There should be a raid tracker where you can record who you grouped with, when, where and it would have a note making capability as well. -Ilfixu

#7 I think the item that causes me the most serious grief is that so many message types are bundled under "System". This along with combat spew makes life hellish to filter out what I don't need to see so that I don't miss messages that are important.

As an example one of the messages in system is when your charmed pet goes free. Losing a charm during battle with the spew going by too fast is a real problem. I've already made three chat windows and all of them are heavily filtered. In the combat spew window I don't need to see reflect damage, it is trivial and spams up the window obfuscating other details I want to see. -Aerlinthian

#8 Make the scroll button in chat windows blink when your view is scrolled up and there is new text. -Aerlinthian

#9 The Map UI. The map following me is a great thing. However not all the time. If im tryin to find a location on the map that isnt in the playfield I am, I happen to be yalming or running it jumps back to my location. Make it possible to easily turn this option off on the Map UI itself. -forgotmypwagain

#10 The friends list window. Making it a bit easier than having to type /cc addbuddy every time you want to add a friend. Perhaps being able to target a person and press Control+F just as an example, or even easier, being able to Control+Click their name in the chat window. Adding a button for this to that particular section of the chat window wouldnt be a bad idea either. -forgotmypwagain

What do you think of the Lost Eden pre-order bonus being a specially designed mech?
Wow, that is freakin awesome!
I guess that's cool.
I don't really care to be honest.
That kinda sucks.
A new era of haves and have-nots has dawned....
