Adrien van Viersen, storyboard artist for both X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand updated his website with several sections of storyboard art for scenes that both appeared and did not appear in the movie, including Kitty Pryde vs. Juggernaut, Pyro vs. Iceman, Storm practicing her powers and Jean Grey literally wiping San Francisco off the Earth (that's the deleted one). Also included are some rough sketches for fight scenes in the film and some X-Men 2 material in other parts of the website.

X-Men: First Class II Revealed
17:34 PST | Lance | Print News | Mail News
A couple months ago, X-Men: First Class made a reasonable debut showing off stories set during the X-Men's first year as a team. In this week's New Joe Friday's Column, Joe Quesada briefly mentioned that we should expect a sequel to First Class sometime in 2007, tentatively titled X-Men: First Class II. He didn't give any details about the series, but it seems likely that the current creative team will be held over for the sequel miniseries.

Fox Holds On To X-Men
16:49 PST | Lance | Print News | Mail News
Despite rumors sprouting from Xmenfilms.net stating that Marvel would like to take the X-Men movie franchise in a different direction which FOX isn't cooperating with, IESB has stepped in to make absolutely clear that even if there is a rift and even if Marvel wanted to add X-Men to its increasing stable of company produced films, FOX owns the rights for the X-Men films "in perpetuity." If a new X-Men movie were to be made, then it'll be coming from FOX.

Dave Cockrum (1943-2006)
6:50 PST | Lance | Print News | Mail News
Legendary X-Men artist Dave Cockrum passed away Sunday morning due to complications of diabetes. Cockrum reshaped the team in 1975 when he drew Giant-Size X-Men #1, in which characters that he co-created like Colossus, Storm and Nightcrawler debuted. Cockrum is also responsible for the first redesign of Wolverine's costume and is officially considered to be one of the team's co-creators.

Cockrum's health has deteriorated since 2004 when he was admitted to a hospital due to complications of both diabetes and pneumonia. He was 63. Clifford Meth, a friend of the family, announced the news and has asked that well-wishers not call Cockrum's widow Paty and, instead, direct their comments to e-mail.

Jackman Namedrops Singer for Wolverine
5:19 PST | Lance | Print News | Mail News
While on a press junket for The Fountain, Hugh Jackman posed the possibility of Bryan Singer returning to the X-Men franchise with the Wolverine spin-off film to IESB. According to Jackman, Singer is at the top of a short list of directions he would like to be attached to the movie but at this point it is too early to make any definite statements about the director.

Jackman also said that production would likely commence in early 2008, but considering that Singer will be directing a sequel to Superman Returns around this time, it seems doubtful that he will get the Wolverine job.

Rob Williams Previews Wolverine #49
21:02 PST | Lance | Print News | Mail News
The last issue before the big issue number 50 of the current volume of Wolverine is right around the corner, but before Jeph Loeb and Simone Bianchi take over the title, Rob Williams and Laurence Campbell have a delightful Christmas story to tell about Christmas and a suicide death cult to tell in December. The full scoop, along with some preview art, can be seen in the most recent edition of All the Rage.

ToyFare Previews Marvel Legends Series 2
17:51 PST | Lance | Print News | Mail News
The second series of Marvel Legends following Hasbro's acquisition of the license is set for release in Spring 2007, but ToyFare magazine has snagged preview pictures of what is presumably the finalized look of the characters. The new series includes movie versions of Juggernaut and Jean Grey (plus a chase variant with her looking awfully pale and veiny) and Ultimate Wolverine. The figures all come with "build-a-figure" pieces that can be combined to form Blob.

The figures are different from the prototypes that were previously displayed during the summer, most notably the far more cartoon-style pain schemes and the fact that Blob doesn't look quite as gross anymore.

WizardUniverse Talks to Joss Whedon
6:08 PST | Lance | Print News | Mail News
There's still a couple weeks before the next installment of Astonishing X-Men, but people are still talking about the revelations that occurred in issue #17. WizardUniverse sat down with Joss Whedon, writer of the book, to answer some questions: Yes, Cyclops doesn't have his powers currently. Yes, Lockheed is a spy for S.W.O.R.D. but Joss isn't saying what that will lead to (if anything). And yes, Joss is morally opposed to crossovers.

Astonishing X-Men #18 is scheduled for release on November 15.

Marvel Zombies Meet Bruce Campbell
12:49 PST | Lance | Print News | Mail News
Marvel Zombies was a surprise hit for Marvel that sent issues into third and fourth pressings of some issues, and now it's getting a sequel starring everyone's favorite horror protagonist: Ash from the Evil Dead series. Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness will last for five issues and start in March 2007. However, the series won't be written by Robert Kirkman or drawn by Sean Phillips. The prequel instead will feature John Layman writing the script and Fabiano Neves and June Chung on art.

The covers will again be zombie parodies of well known Marvel comics from the past, rendered by painter Arthur Suydam. The first cover in the series was debuted on Newsarama and depicts Uncanny X-Men #141, part of the Days of Future Past.

X-Factor is in for some changes with the upcoming "Re-X-Aminations" issue that reunites writer Peter David with artist Pablo Raimondi after they laid the seeds for a new X-Factor series through a noir detective Madrox miniseries. Newsarama has snagged an interview with David in anticipation for the changes in art and also fully explains the implications of the "killcrop" mutants that were established in the first 12 issues of the series.

WISDOM #1 (OF 6) (MR) 11/01/06 - 11/08/06

Deadpool Officially Announced in Ultimate Alliance
17:04 PST | Lance | Print News | Mail News
Although it was fairly well known that Deadpool would be returning to the video game world in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, it was officially announced by Raven Software that he would be a playable character on all platforms. It appears that he will, for the most part, play like he did in X-Men Legends 2 but he has all new costumes to choose from, including Ultimate, Weapon X and "Assassin" variants. Sadly, no Agent X unlockable character.

And, once again, we're giving away invites to the VIP section of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance website. My account has been loaded with 25 additional invites, so anyone who sends an e-mail will likely get one.
