AMD Introduces Commercial Stable Image Platform Program to Deliver Choice for Medium and Large Businesses SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Sept. 27, 2005-- AMD CSIP Program Offers Manageable, Stable Image Platform Solutions for Simplified Commercial PC Management Enabling stronger commercial solutions for OEMs to meet the evolving needs of business, government, and education, AMD (NYSE:AMD) is delivering a new choice in the implementation of commercial desktop and notebook PC platforms. Today, AMD introduced the AMD Commercial Stable Image Platform (AMD CSIP) program, a commercial PC solution that offers OEMs a 15-month disk image stability period for improved system manageability. AMD is working with industry-leading chipset and motherboard manufacturers to enable desktop and mobile PC solutions designed to lower IT costs and increase end-user productivity. The AMD CSIP program enables stable image PC platform solutions, while reducing the amount of platform configurations an IT organization must support. AMD64 technology already offers increased longevity for platforms due to its upgradeability from 32- to 64-bits, as well as upgrade potential from single-core to dual-core technology, depending on the system. AMD currently offers top to bottom solutions for thin client computing with the AMD Geode(TM) processor, as well as high-performing workstation solutions, and a backbone for server-based computing with the AMD Opteron(TM) processor. Custom solutions provided by AMD for blade PC solutions also provide flexibility for OEMs and excellent performance/watt. Together with customers and partners, AMD can now offer OEMs a complete portfolio of commercial client computing solutions with platforms including managed PCs, blade PCs, high-performance workstations, and thin clients. |

Monarch Empro and ULB Get Latest Dual-Core AMD Opteron(TM) Processors Venerable Lines of Workstations and Servers Get New Ticker, Lease on Life ATLANTA, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- From their headquarters in Tucker, GA, Monarch Computer announced today the addition of the latest Dual-Core AMD Opteron(TM) processors, Model 880 and Model 280, to the Monarch Empro and Ultimate Linux Box (ULB) line of servers and workstations. The new Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors re-invigorate two old and venerable lines of Monarch servers and workstations by providing them with one of the best platforms for x86 computing. Monarch Empro and ULB servers and workstations with Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors come in one, two, and four processor configurations, meaning that customers can purchase systems with up to eight CPU cores at the highest performance available. High Performance - Low Power The Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors have the same wattage profile as their single-core processors, about 95 watts. This means that the new Empro and ULB systems with the Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Model 880 or Model 280 offer greater performance without increasing heat or power requirements. "It's unbelievable what AMD did with the Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor," said Trey Harris, founder of Monarch Computer. "Not only can we now offer four-way (8-core) systems, but we can offer two-way (4-core) servers and workstations in smaller form factors than previously possible. You want four cores sitting in a tower on your desk for CAD? Done." |

| No Crossfire, But nForce 430 Is Here | |

We don't have Crossfire, but we do have nForce 430. Crossfire samples are few and far between, and we don't expect samples until mid October. We were told this would not be a paper launch, but it appears this is. I can not find master cards for sale, or even get an indication of when they will be available. It certainly is far different from when we had the first review of the IGP 320M with the FIC AT31 board. Anyway you can check out Tech Report and Hexus for reviews of Crossfire. Stay tuned for our tests of the 430/6150 combo very soon. |

eWeek has an article on AMD and Intel cutting power and upping performance. Ok, so really this is an article on the new Opteron launch that has Intel in the title for no apparent reason. Tweaks in the 90-nanometer production process are enabling AMD to bump up the frequency to 2.4GHz while keeping the power consumption stable, an important move for data center administrators looking to balance the use of smaller and more powerful servers with the thermal and power issues that can arise. Apparently Texas A&M will add another Opteron cluster according to the article. |

dtp let us know about this Barron's article on AMD eating Intel's lunch. The stock market says Intel is worth $151 billion and AMD , less than $9 billion. Which makes no sense. After all, AMD has one-seventh of Intel's sales and the better growth prospects. If AMD had even one-seventh of Intel's stock-market value, it'd be a $53 stock. |

The Inquirer reports that AMD and Intel may be close to settling. There's several factors that make us wonder whether lawyers for Intel and AMD are hatching up a plan. The first is that the only documents filed in court since the beginning of this month have been Judge Joseph Farnan signing orders on the 8th of September saying that he agreed to deals between Dell/AMD and Rackable/AMD preserving documents in the case. |

I've been watching the past few hours as Rita has neared shore. Thank God it has hit in an area on the Texas-Lousiana border that is not heavily populated. Unfortunately Houston dodging a bullet meant that New Orleans got more rain, and more flooding is happening. Hopefully this is the last of the hurricanes for the area this season. Our thoughts are with everyone down there. Stay safe. |
