I think our brand-new realistic review system is starting to sink in if the latest poll results are any indication. We gave F.E.A.R. a 9 and it's dominating. Serious Sam 2 -- which got a 6 -- is getting its ass kicked harder than an unwanted redheaded stepchild and is in last place. Sorry Croteam, but the people have spoken. Quake IV? Its slightly winning vs Call of Duty 2 (early impressions are good), but we haven't reviewed that yet (Q4 scored a 7). Regardless, the none of the above option is beating them both, so that's nothing to brag about either way. I enjoy reviewing games, so hopefully this trend continues.

Wow... Are there any decent Xbox 360 launch titles? I feel sorry for the suckers who bought those stupid bundles. Enjoy random sports and racing games I guess, as everything else misses the launch window.

Today's question:

Are there any decent Xbox 360 launch titles / system sellers left?

Take Two Predicts Oblivion Delays 04:11 pm - Robert 'Apache' Howarth - Games: Role-Playing (11 comments)
Thanks to Philip Palermo for the news that according to this investor's relations report from Take Two, the Elder Scrolls Oblivion might be seeing some delays:
For the first quarter ending January 31, 2006, $300 to $350 million in net sales and $0.04 to $0.10 in diluted net income per share. In addition to the factors mentioned above, the reduction in first quarter guidance also reflects the movement of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for PC and Xbox 360 from the first quarter to the second quarter and the movement of the Japanese launch of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for PlayStation 2 out of the first quarter and the fiscal year.
I'll see what Pete over at Bethesda has to say on it.

NCsoft launches City of Villains 01:51 pm - Elias 'Mithan' Doulia - MMOG: Action (1 comment)
City of Villains launched today and here is the press release:

Oct. 31, 2005—NCsoft® North America announces that City of Villains&153;, stand-alone sequel to the hit massively multiplayer online PC game City of Heroes®, has gone live in North America. Developed by Cryptic Studios&153; and published by NCsoft, City of Villains introduces a host of new features including the ability to create massive evil lairs from the ground up, and player-versus-player (PvP) zones where villains can battle against hero players from the City of Heroes game.

City of Villains is available at retailers in North America at an anticipated price of US$49.99 for its standard edition and US$69.99 for the feature-packed collector's DVD edition. Both editions include the first month of online game play, and after the first month, players will be charged a monthly subscription fee of US$14.99. Earlier this month NCsoft announced that existing City of Heroes' customers can purchase City of Villains and subscribe to both games for the single subscription price of US$14.99.

"City of Villains' players should have no trouble getting in touch with their inner scoundrel," said NCsoft CEO Robert Garriott. "And since customers can play City of Heroes and City of Villains for one subscription price, it is also a tremendous value."

City of Villains was created in response to the number one request from players…to be the bad guy. Cryptic Studios has answered that request with dark and startling new costume options, and distinctly villainous missions including heists, abductions and infiltrations. In addition to the robust base creator feature, City of Villains will allow players to use their bases for special PvP base raids. Once super groups obtain and store special items of power in their bases, they will be forced to defend them from other intruding hero and villain super groups.

"Though City of Villains is packed with new features, another key difference is in how you approach your character," said Jack Emmert, creative director at Cryptic Studios and lead designer for City of Heroes and City of Villains. "Players are going to have to be more aggressive and uncompromising. They will quickly learn that survival is the name of the game, because as a villain you are going to be the target of other villains, lawful authorities, rival gangs and super powered-heroes. So the badder you are, the better you'll be."

Now you too can be an evil basterd.

BBC on WoW Spyware 01:16 pm - Robert 'Apache' Howarth - Games: MMOG (14 comments)
Adam Gurney sends word that the BBC posted a story called Warcraft game maker in spying row which takes a look at the "spyware" Blizzard uses to enforce its anti-cheating policies called The Warden:

Blizzard took to the forums on the central community site for World of Warcraft to defend itself and correct what it saw as "misinformation" about its actions.

It said that The Warden did not gather any personally identifiable information about players only data about the account being used. It also re-iterated that the only thing done with data gathered was to look for evidence of hack or cheat programs.

For their part many gamers seem happy to tolerate The Warden even though they acknowledged that it eroded their privacy to an extent.

Is using Spyware the ultimate form of anti-cheating, or just another excuse to keep tabs on your Internet activities?
