Matt responds: I think it will pan out all right. Remember that Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma merely stated that the next Zelda would follow Wind Waker in chronological order. Obviously many years will have passed as Link is clearly fully grown in the next game. I suppose this is still a spoiler, but you should all know what happens at the end of Wind Waker. Having conquered all of his quests and defeated the enemy, Link sails off with Zelda. I'd really like to see what becomes of him, if it is in fact the same and the same universe. He developed from a boy to an experienced warrior in Wind Waker. Imagine how another 15 years will have changed the character.
Thanks.
Matt responds: I sort of touched upon this above, but figured this was worth addressing in order to clear up a mistranslation. I'm fairly certainly Aonuma didn't say that the game was finished. He said that it was coming. As in, "we've already announced that the game is coming" You can read a more accurate translation of the original French interview right here. As for your question, there's no need; Nintendo of America has already stated several times on numerous occasions that Zelda will release in the US this year.
Matt responds: Well, it was originally unofficially scheduled for GameCube. Nintendo and Silicon Knights showed an FMV trailer of the title at Space World several years ago. We have some photos of the game in its media section. At the time, we tried desperately to film it, but were repeatedly told to shut our cameras off by persistent Nintendo personnel. I really wish we had that footage today, though. My memory of the game has faded over the years.
Silicon Knights has remained completely mute on the subject of Too Human in recent months, but I'm fairly confident it's still very much in development. The fact that the studio recently re-registered the trademark for the game shows that it still has an interest in maintaining the license. I expect that the game has undergone some massive makeovers. Probably looks and plays far different than veteran gamers remember it on the original PlayStation.
I have high hopes for Too Human regardless of what next-generation console it appears on. I've formed a theory about the game based on some observations and comments made by company president Denis Dyack in interviews. As you probably know, Silicon Knights collectively believes that games are art, one day destined to replace movies as the ultimate entertainment. This is also a developer that believes in high-end technology as an integral tool in creating realistic, thoughtful software. Meanwhile, I happen to know that Denis adores massively multiplayer online games. I could be wrong on this -- perhaps I'll live to eat my words -- but I'll go ahead and make a guess that Silicon Knights has chosen Xbox 360 as the platform for Too Human. It just seems like the logical fit for the following reason, which is that I believe the game has crossed genres into the massively multiplayer online realm. Microsoft with Xbox Live has the best console-based online network, period, and its next console is going to be plenty capable in the technology department, too.
