Mailbag
Laugh, damn you!
That mailbag was a joke.
Is this site that far gone that no interesting questions are submitted anymore, or do you just like answering the most idiotic questions submitted while thinking you're being funny?
I'd hate to be a IGN editor, doesn't appear your job will be around that much longer if this is any indication. Good luck with the job search.
--Leo
I think somebody needs a hug.
--Tom
Hey, Tom, what do you smoke/drink when you answer all the letters in the maibag? I really want to know. Go f--- yourself (I say this in a good way).
--Martn.
Well, I don't smoke or drink while doing the mailbag. But I do skeet shoot puppies.

I'm upgrading my PC so that it's more HL2-ready. Currently, I sport a bangin' P3 600 MHz with an ATI 9200 AiW. Don't even ask about my hot RAM. All jokes aside, I'm upping to an AMD 3500+ 2.2 GHz, 512 megs of RAM, and soon to be an nVidia 6800. I was wondering if this would clear me for a much better performance when playing HL2. Would I see any graphical improvement without the new video card?
--Nick
Since you're not changing the video card, my guess would be "no." Sorry, bud!
--Tom
I'm sure you've gotten a million of these. Just incase you haven't, though, I just wanted to tell you that J. Fett is spelled "Jango," not "Jengo." Don't get pissed off at me if you've gotten a bunch of these, I'm just trying to help.
Jesse F.
Thanks for the heads-up, Jasse!
Come on, people, that was a gimme! Is this thing on?
--Tom
Hello,
I was wondering if you guys could recommend a controller (preferably wireless) to use when playing Star Wars Galaxies.
Thanks,
Louis B.
Well, considering that SWG has about 10,000 keyboard commands, the likelihood of being able to use a gamepad effectively is pretty low.

EA seems to be very busy buying up game developers of late and I'm just left wondering if there's anything good that could possibly come out of this. Also, and while this is pure speculation, do you think EA might be up to something other than simply eliminating competition? Like possibly going into the hardware sector? I could just see them trying to put out a console at the rate they're buying up these companies.
--Adam
Hi Adam,
Well, of course, on our side of the playing field, we like to see as much competition as possible, which tends to generate higher quality and competitive pricing. Besides the standard capitalist desire to eliminate competition, EA does provide these developers with lots of money, a large PR department, more advertising, and wider distribution than they might have had before. I personally think that consolidation leads to mediocrity.
I don't see them branching out into hardware, though, because the profit margins are so slim, and you typically even take a loss for the first couple years the console is on the shelf. You know the old saying--give away the razor, and charge a premium for the blades. The console makers get their money back on licensing fees (which is why a console game typically costs $5-10 more than a PC game), eventual refinement of the hardware production process, and gradually lower hardware costs. I'm not really an expert in this department, though--I'd ask Jeremy Dunham over on the PS2 channel. At any rate, I think EA is going to stick with providing entertainment products, rather than devices.
Hope that answers your questions.

That [Half-Life 2] tentacle wasn't just a tech demo. It was going to be in the game, but they decided to scrap the level it was in because of gameplay issues that it caused. It was supposed to be a huge boss, and its tentacles would come crashing through walls to get at you. But since you would die every time it touched you, they decided to scrap it since it would be very frustrating. The creator of it said he would like to use it again in a future game, though. Hope that helps a little.

I was wondering if you think Blizzard has focused too much on WoW and should rebuild the Diablo series. I dont know about you, but I think that if a Diablo 3 was to come out tomorrow, it would easily surpass WoW, which brings me to my question: Is Blizzard making a Diablo 3, another expansion or something, or am I going to have to live with the aging Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction for the rest of my life? I need answers.
Thanks.
--Mike
Blizzard is a large company and can devote itself to multiple simultaneous projects. Beyond that, I know nothing about Diablo 3 development, but I highly doubt we've seen the end of it.

This Outro is a Joke
And there isn't even a punchline!
Have a spiffy weekend.
