PSP backlash, Zelda's graphics, and why Matt thinks Batman Begins will be great.
Weekend Moron
yeah right!! do you have a stupid answer for every question/ comment? bulls****t! "People pay up to $500 to listen to their iPods" yeah, these are the rich sh!teheads only, not the average gamer, which are a higher part of the population. "I believe that Sony's decision to market PSP at $250 and not, say, $200, says something" you are right here, which is: "hey Nintendo, we give up! how do you manage it all?" stop saying stupid things or beating around the bush Matt! grow up! people will buy that gives value to their money, not stupid things like what has a higher % in the market share, you hear me. you nshould know this by now... Sony is just begging for a defeat with the price they are asking. whoever is denying this i have one thing to say to them: Rest in "pieces"

Matt responds: Well, we're headed into the weekend now so I figured that just for kicks I'd include one of these letters. Truly sound logic. I guess Sony was also "begging for a defeat" with the initial $299 price of PlayStation 2, which spanked the dramatically cheaper GameCube's ass in worldwide sales until Nintendo's machine could no longer sit down. If GameCube proved anything, it's that having the cheapest price is not nearly as important as we all thought it was.
By the way, Apple sold 4.5 million iPods in the fourth quarter of last year alone, eclipsing console sales for Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft. At the time, the cheapest iPod available was the Mini, which retailed for $250, incidentally the same price as the PSP. I say again, if people want something, they are going to find a way to buy, high priced or not. Clearly Sony is counting on it.
Gone, But Not Forgotten
On the main page one of the features is a Biohazard 4 bonus disc with the older version of Resident Evil 4. Is this going to be able to pick up as a purchase or is it just a preview that you guys have to show off?
Matt responds: Some people call this Resident Evil 3.5. Japanese buyers who picked up Resident Evil 4 received a bonus disc with footage of the old, cancelled version of the game. It shows off traditional survival horror sequences where hero Leon S. Kennedy walks through dark hallways. That version of the game is not coming out. It was canned. So don't get your hopes up. Readers who want to check out footage and screens of the old build, however, can go here.
Zelda's Graphics
We all know the new Zelda for Cube is going to look great, but do you think Nintendo can make the final version look better than the awesome looking RE4? My eyes have adjusted its hard to go back to any game that doesn't look as good as RE4.

Matt responds: I think this is a really good question. I'm confident that Zelda will be gorgeous in its own unique way. That said, there's no denying that Capcom did such an amazing job with Resident Evil 4 that it's going to be very difficult for Nintendo to top it. Still, go take a look at Wind Waker again. The cel-shaded presentation is unparalleled. The game is absolutely beautiful. Nintendo really knows how to create huge, seamless worlds with spectacular detail. In videos, I can already see that the new Zelda is going to continue that tradition. And so, to answer y our question, I think Zelda will best Resident Evil 4 in sheer scope. The world is going to be far bigger. On the other hand, as outstanding as the new Link character model looks, some of the enemies in screenshots and videos are decidedly low-polygon in nature and it shows. If that remains true of the final version, RE4 will still have the most realistic all-around characters in a GameCube game.
Craig Harry
Matt, Craig said you love VW Beatles in his mail section. Are you going to take that?
Rockafella
Matt responds: That Harris is a regular barrel of laughs. I admit to nothing. Except that I will soon own a new car, which is a fairly manly Infiniti G35. On an entirely different subject, I keep staring at that picture of Craig and naturally my eyes are drawn to his creamy white bald head. But I can remember a time when Craig let his hair grow. He was a little chubbier in those days, but he looked okay all the same. Don't believe it? Well, you're in luck, for I happen to have a picture of Craig from way back when he was a huge NASCAR fan. Check it out:

The Dark Knight Returns
Matt I liked the new Batman Begins screens you guys posted yesterday but I'm worried that the game is going to suck when I finally play it. Have you tried it yet and is it good?
Matt responds: I actually have high hopes for this game. It's developed by Eurocom, a very strong software house with a lot of talented guys, some of them ex-Rare people. More importantly, though, Batman Begins is underway by the Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy team. I don't know if you've played Sphinx, but it's one of the most underrated games on Nintendo's console. It's a really well done, if unoriginal, Zelda clone. If you see it in the bargain bins, buy it. I guarantee you'll enjoy it. I think the team will take what it learned with Sphinx and apply it to Batman Begins, as well as add a bunch of new and intriguing mechanics. Judging from the screenshots, art and technology has already come together. The game closely mimics the dark and dreary style of the upcoming feature film. I put this game in my Games of 2005 hot list for a reason: I really do believe it's going to be a lot of fun.
Budokai 3
Hey guyz, great site. I see that DBZ Budokai 2 was released on the Gamecube almost a year after it released on the PS2. So does that mean that DBZ Budokai 3 which was just released for PS2 and is supposed to be far better than its predecessors, is coming to Gamecube too?
Thanx,
Mitch
Matt responds: Don't hold your breath for it. The folks at Atari say that have no immediate plans to bring Budokai 3 to GameCube. Apparently they're evaluating the possibility, but that's it.
What Does it Mean?
Matt, I noticed that you reported the PSP price/launch date on PSP channel... you recently said that if we saw you reporting on more non-Nintendo consoles, then we could guess that the Revolution wasn't as good an idea as Nintendo says. So, does this mean you have some information on Revolution that you don't like? Or did you just decide to report on a handheld you are highly anticipating?
Matt responds: Hah. Fear not. I just happened to be the first person into work the morning that PSP's launch date, price, and lineup details were announced. That I wrote a story for the PSP channel has nothing to do with any Revolution info I've come by.
