N-Query
TimeSplitters and RE4 growing old discussed in the weekend mailbag.
Second Half Too Predictable?
Hi Guys,
Great site and all, keep up the good work!! Formalities over? Good. I've read in a few reviews of RE4 that the game gets a bit samey as you go on and it looses its initial appeal when you get further in the game. That there are not enough new enemies/features during the latter part of the game and that you get 'used' to the atmosphere hence its not as scary later on as it is in the beginning. Would you say these are fair criticisms and what are your views on this?

Matt responds: I've seen those complaints and I have to say that I really don't agree with them. I just don't understand them. One of the biggest surprises about Resident Evil 4 is the sheer variety it dishes out. Just when you get used to an area, you find yourself in a new one, and with different enemies to worry about. This formula continues forward through the second half of the game. And there are some really tricky boss battles thrown in for good measure, too. I could see it if reviewers complained about a mostly unchanged control scheme, or even if they whined about some illogical puzzles, but to say that the game becomes too repetitive is just wrong. It's not open for debate.
Buh?
Hey. Quick question. I read over on your sister site, the Xbox one, that Silicon Knights is developing games for the Xbox. Tell me it isn't true!! I don't believe it. I mean I just went to their website, and there is still a huge Nintendo logo on the entrance page. There is no way that Nintendo would allow that, and I know I read something about Nintendo and Siilicon Knights parting ways, but I read that almost a year ago. It doesn't take almost a year to edit a website. So, back to my question. Is silicon knights working on Xbox?
Matt responds: Yeah, I saw that yesterday. To my knowledge, neither Factor 5 nor Silicon Knights are developing games for Microsoft's Xbox. That said, I expect they are both creating software for the successor to Microsoft's console, codenamed Xenon.
Splitters
Hey Matt. You run a great section of the site, and I really enjoy reading all the features and letters that others have sent. I just have a question about Timesplitters Future Perfect: does the game feature blood and do you think it will be rated "M"? I really loved the TS2 deathmatches and I hope that TSFP is "T" as I am not yet old enough to get "M" games. Thanks.
Matt responds: TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is actually a lot like TimeSplitters 2 in that it really doesn't blow out the gore factor. I'd say it's even less violent than classic games like GoldenEye, which were pretty dry on blood. Bearing that in mind, I don't see any reason why Future Perfect won't earn the same T rating that its predecessor received.
Killer 7
You know, Matt, I've seen you go on and on about Killer 7 for the past year and a half (or thereabouts).
Having watched the trailer and looked through the several pages of screenshots, I can honestly say...
The game not only LOOKS like crap, but seeing it in motion pretty much confirms for me that it PLAYS like crap.
And yeah... I can tell. Any lover of shooters can. I rented GoldenCrap: Lame Agent and within 10 seconds of picking up the controller was disgusted and took it back. I didn't ask for my money back. I just didn't want that abomination in my house for 5 days.
Have you PLAYED Killer 7?
Zoniax
Matt responds: First of all, you should remember that Killer 7 is only playable in theory. This portion of the "game" has never been demonstrated to any living human being, so far as I understand it. Rather, Capcom periodically releases screenshots and video of the title, each more disturbing and confusing than the next. So no, I haven't played it. That noted, to me Killer 7 is at the very least worth a guaranteed rental regardless of whether or not it turns out to be the biggest, smelliest turd in existence, simply because I'm totally intrigued by the style and off-the-wall neo-noir storyline. It's an adventure game, a first-person shooter and a psychedelic acid trip rolled up into one package. For those reasons, I think it's unfair to draw parallels between Killer 7 and a generic shooter like Rogue Agent.
Fatalities
Will the 2 new playable characters in MK:D have actual finishers this time around?
Matt responds: A contacted Midway about your question this morning. Here's the response: "Goro and Shao Kahn will each have two different fatalities, and a unique hari kari move."
Hope that helps.
