Ace Combat, layering, loading, and still more...

Loading Carnage

I wrote a letter recently about the Dual Layer DVD on GTA:SA already, and you answered my question pretty well...but I got one more question; will this feature stop or at least control the scratching and annoying 'LOADING' of the game?

-- Dan The Man

Probably not. Dual-layered DVDs have a greater storage capacity than single-layered DVDs. This fact should not have anything to do with how the game loads.

Look Around

i was wondering if you could send me some footage of the legend undertaker and kane

-- Tross

We did an update today that covers both of them. There's an Insider video that prominently features Kane and a normal video with the Undertaker. Look around for them. We have many Smackdown movies and they're in there somewhere.

Infra-Thingy

I have a question, does the new PS TWO have a built-in IR reciever like the "newer" model of the PS2?

-- Robert

Yes.

Picture and Picture

I am in the market for a new tv. But I heard that burnin can occur for Projection and plasma TV's. LCD is too expensive for me but can spend around 2300.00. So I am do you have any suggestions for a good deal? I was leaning towards a Sony 36inch HDTV non projection tv. I was leaning towards a Hitachi 57inch rear projection but heard that this is not a good gaming tv. Help!

-- Ian

The absolute best picture quality you're going to get on a television is with the 34" Sony XBR (1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i). Unfortunately, it's only 34 inches diagonally, which happens to be the same size as the 36" model's viewable widescreen. I'd personally buy the 36" model (plenty of games are still 4:3), but if you want the ultimate performer, pick up the 34".

Nothing beats pure tube CRT in terms of quality, yet. And no company does HDTV tubes better than Sony. I've tried dozens and that's the only one that consistently amazes me regardless of what it's playing.

Sticking it to Ace

Hi
I was just wondering about the new Ace Combat 5 flight stick 2. I was just wondering if it was really worth it? I already have the flight stick for Ace Combat 04. Is the stick compatible with AC5? if it is then i will stick with it. However if I need the Flight stick 2 to enjoy the game to its full potential, then I guess that the way to go.

ok thanks for your time.

-- Wyn

Just use your older flight stick or any PS2 flight stick, for that matter.

Unbiased and Plenty Secure

With Ace Combat 5 about to come out and Killzone and Metal Gear Solid 3 following shortly after, this is going to be an expensive time of the year for me. I'm pretty sure these three games are AAA titles, Ace Combats always been on the cutting edge of action/flight games. Killzone is looking to be a refreshing change of pace away from Timesplitters and Metal Gear Solid 3 seems to be continuing the legacy; the demo rocks.

Who is doing the reviews for Killzone and AC:5 and when can we expect a review for Ace Combat 5.

One more thing: I'm almost positive you're reviewing MGS:3, and I know you get a lot of heat in the mailbag regarding your honest review of MGS2. I respect your opinion. But honestly, from the trailers and the demo, you can't deny how awesome this game is (more then likely) going to be! It's the first game to really capture the essence of the outside environment, and the whole survival aspect rocks as well. I hope you give an unbiased and fair review of this game.
Thanks!

-- Cameron

I'm reviewing both Killzone and Ace Combat 5. I can't say when you can expect a review of Ace because we're still trying to get online reviewable builds in. It sucks, I know.

From what I've played of Snake Eater, it seems very fun. And don't worry, I strive to approach every game fairly.

Aesthetics

yo,
i had an idea.
i hate the cube's wavebird sensor, so i plug in a extender cable, and drop it behind the system. so the cord just looks like another controller cord. would this work with the Logitec PS2 wireless? Plug in the normal sized plug from the extender which would stop the prop-up problem. (does this make sence?)

-- Ivan Lost His Name

It'll work. Can't say I agree with your design choices, however.

You know you can even hook your Logitech wireless pad up to a Super PSJoy PlayStation 2 to USB converter and use your Logitech wireless pad to play PC games, which is quite awesome. That's how versatile all this crap is.

The Guessing Game

This one kid at my college was playing this very interesting game last year for the PS2, and for the life of me, I can't remember what the game was called. I hope my description of it can help you along in this inquiry (is that spelled right). It is a medival type game and in this one level, you have to fight off hordes of an evil army trying to enter your castle, and in another, you're in this town fighting off hordes of giant babies that try to eat you. Any insight into what game this would be would be great because I am curious as to what you rated it.

-- Jon

Maximo?

And Jon, your description sucks. Elaborate more.

-- Ivan

Snake? Snake!?!?!

Well folks... I did a big update yesterday, so to heck with today. You hear me, Crom?

What is best in life?

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!
