  Mmorpgdot's Ryzom 'First Look'
[Post A Comment] - Print News | Mail News
Mmorpgdot has a "First Look" feature for Ryzom, find it here.

"The buff system in Ryzom adds special abilities, which are called 'auras'. When you have developed a skill up to a certain level, an aura ability can be gained for that as well. When using it all friendly players in the range of the aura receive a bonus for that ability. Using an aura is time restricted and there is a long delay before being able to use the aura again.

Player versus Player combat is only possible in designated arenas and in the outposts. When you die in a PvP fight, you loose stat points and experience points for a certain duration of time. After this time has expired you get those points back again.
Even for the higher-level characters there is something to do with specially designed areas for characters above level 120. In addition, the GMs of Ryzom can start scripts to launch a massive attack, allowing for an extra dimension where large groups of people have to work together to overcome the attack...."

Enjoy! =)

Ryzom Launches!
Print News | Mail News
Here's the Press Release announcing the much anticipated arrival:

The Saga of Ryzom Launches in US

Nevrax’s Groundbreaking MMORPG Ships to North American Retailers

Paris, France – September 20th, 2004 –The Saga of Ryzom has begun! TriSynergy and Nevrax confirmed today that Nevrax’s graphically stunning MMORPG The Saga of Ryzom has begun shipping to retailers throughout North America, and will be in stores across the U.S. and Canada this week. The North American servers will go live later today.

A virtual unknown in the North American market at this time last year, The Saga of Ryzom has grown to become one of the most hotly anticipated MMOG releases of 2004. Called “a serious contender in the fantasy-MMOG market,” by GameSpy , and deemed 2004’s “Best MMO of E3” by WarCry Network, Ryzom received close to 170,000 sign ups for its beta, which ended September 14.

“Today’s North American market is a demanding environment within which to launch a massively multiplayer game,” said David Cohen Corval, CEO of Nevrax, “and we are very gratified at the level of enthusiasm with which American and Canadian gamers have greeted Ryzom.”

With an immersive player-driven storyline, a dynamic ecosystem, groundbreaking mass combat mechanics, and lush graphics, The Saga of Ryzom is the answer to the prayers of massively multiplayer gamers seeking a fresh, compelling experience instead of cookie-cutter fantasy settings.

  Mmorpgdot - Ryzom Beta Impressions
[Post A Comment] - Print News | Mail News
Mmorpgdot has posted a review of beta experiences that you can check out here.

"The skill system looks complex due to the sheer number of actions and stat improvements you can buy, but in practice it's quite simple. They call it the Modular Action System, because you can take abilities and effects from different actions you've learned and and combine them into a new, composite action that includes the effects of all the stanzas you've included. Stanzas are what they call ability components; every action you buy is made of them, and learning that action grants you access to all its stanzas for use in action creation. It's as simple as an addition problem; abilities have a cost, and credits are supplied by stanzas that limit the range of the power, or require spending stamina to use the action, or health, or any number of other negative effects. As long as the cost is paid in full by the credits, you can create the action, and if there are more credits than cost, the action's chance to succeed is enhanced."
Enjoy your read.

RPG Vault - Modular Action System Q&A;
[Post A Comment] - Print News | Mail News
RPG Vault has this Q&A; for you to check out, read the Modular Action System Q&A;.

"Jonric: In terms of understanding of the modular action system, what is its purpose, and what was your inspiration for it?

David Cohen Corval: It is there to improve the freedom of the players and push forward their capabilities to shape not just their roles, but also their actions according to their needs. It is inspired by things such as Legos, which are small building blocks that fit together like puzzle pieces, where you can follow a set of instructions for building things or make things your own way...."

Enjoy! =)

Ryzom In Depth Focus At Jolt - Part IV
[Post A Comment] - Print News | Mail News
Jolt's got another addition to the In Depth Focus section updated today. Find it here :

"Within the team each homin has a vital role to play, and no matter how tempting it is during a fire fight to stray from that role, the fate of your team relies on each member maintaining their role. Each role should be agreed upon and understood before you venture into the wilderness. If you need to ask questions during combat then it is too late, and death is eagerly awaiting your first mistake. Remember that during a fight your friends will also be busy and the noise fearsome – they may not hear you or be able to answer.

What roles should your team members take? Here I shall describe the basic roles that have ensured the survival and been the basis of many a fortune made and fame that shines like a beacon to all."
