A very well-written and informative preview of the multi-player part is now available at GameSpy's. To get an impression of the MP of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. go and check out the article.
"Crawlspaces abound, some taking the form of large, strategically placed tubes, while others were actual access ways built into the ground. Sniping points were almost innumerable, including easily accessible rooftops; crumbling, elevated pathways; and portable structures tucked away in shadows -- even the open ground (or what passes for it, in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) was replete with features that encouraged cover. Basically, the environments in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. feel both organic and intricately designed, however contradictory that might sound. Not an inch of space is wasted."
Update: Found another short article at 1UP.com. The editor believes that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is at least on par with DOOM 3 "when it comes to pretty, atmospheric effects."
The German web site 4Players has released a new movie that was shot at the German Games Convention. Though the content is quite interesting, the quality is rather bad as you can hardly recognize anything. Its size is 128 MB and you can download it only with a speed of 20kb/s. The single-player part is shown and commented by Oleg Yavorsky for 12 minutes.
I received several e-mails by fans, asking about the co-op. Will it be released or not? So that the rest of you is also correctly informed, I will clear things up publicly. Various web sites have been reporting that the co-operative mode will be delivered after the release of the game via a patch. Senior PR Manager Oleg Yavorsky from GSC Game World responded to our community member ryan dunn, saying: "as for co-op, we haven't made any definite plans yet, so I'm not sure when it will be released, if at all. a patch-released co-op is wrong." I was told the same thing.
We are sorry to report this but we believe that the fans should know the truth instead of unnecessarily raising their expectations. This does not mean that there will never be a co-op mode. You should just keep in mind that there are no concrete plans at the moment.
Besides IGN posting a hands-on preview with new movies today, Gamespot can also triumph as they have come up with a new preview and four new videos (one developer interview + three gameplay movies). Interesting points:
- "You can select to have a match take place in daylight or at night, forcing players to use night vision devices and flashlights."
- "As it stands right now, THQ is looking to start its second beta test in September, and there's talk of a public beta in November."
Do not forget to check out the impressive movies (you do not need to register, streaming is free). Eventhough one movie is marked as new (gameplay video 9) it actually is not. It should be known from E3 2004.
The web site of the planned modification for S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Red Dawn Mod, has got a new design. Find more information about this mod there. The guys are also looking for assistance in the following areas: 3D Modellers, Skinners For 3D Modelling, Character Modelling und Concept Artists. If you are interested, head over to their site.

"Come to the Jolt area where you could get an amazing World First chance to play the multiplayer mode of this breathtaking FPS (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.). Not due until next year, you could gain some major bragging rights by participating in the 8-player deathmatch tournaments being staged every day of the event. Don't miss it!"

A new article has appeared at pc.ign.com. In addition, do not forget to head to IGN's media page where three new movies (shaky cam) are waiting for you. The editor had the opportunity to play the game at the German Games Convention. We recommend that you read the whole report. Yet, if you are too lazy, here are some interesting points summed up for you:
- "A brief conversation commenced via a standard RPG dialogue tree, where I was given a choice of missions and other options, such as buying goods from him (the dealer) if I so wished."
- The PDA "tracks things such as maps, a list of associates, objectives and an encyclopedia".
- The radioactive dogs are a tough enemy, taking at least five or six shots to be taken down.
- "They run away from you and hide until you almost forget about them, then they sniff you out and jump you from behind. You can track them by the blood trails they leave behind." The A.I. does the same with you.
- The A.I. of the enemy soldiers was quite impressive.
- "Artifacts are usually found floating in mid-air since they are a result of the anomalies."
- Tables and chairs can be moved. The physics engine plays a big role.
- Supporting 32 players/server is planned in the multi-player part of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
