Late 2005 Speculation
Posted by Falcon Zero at 10:33 AEST

Scrounging around for news these days can be tough, especially when Rare still insist on keeping even the slightest info for PD0 locked away snugly. But the rumors of the game set to be a launch title for Xbox 2 are slowly becoming clearer. IGN have sourced several developers quoting that Microsoft plan to launch their new console around November next year, well ahead of Sony's PS3 and the Nintendo Revolution. The article also mentions several developers are already heating up development for the new system, so indeed Rareware may be one of them. So there you have it. PD0 will come out, but whether it'll be this year on Xbox or late next year (that would make it more than five years since the release of the original game, yikes we're getting old!) still remains to be seen.

Good News & Bad News

First the bad news. All we heard of PDZ at E3 this year were a dozen crickets chirping into the night - Rare's lineup consisted only of the highly enhanced Kameo & Conker games. So is there still any hope for us? Of course there is. Either PDZ will debut late in the Xbox's life, much like Conker's Bad Fur Day did on N64, but other signs show that it might indeed be developed as an Xbox 2 launch title. If the latter is true we probably won't hear about the game until Microsoft is ready to show off the Xbox's successor which could be from anytime now up till next year's E3. But as they say patience is a virtue and good things come to those who wait so we'll just have to dig in for another long haul.
Now for the good news. Taking a trip around various PD related forums these days it seems many people think the idea of a PDN64 remake bundled along with PDZ would be a great - if not vital idea to help boost the game's sales. But this bounty comes early for those of you that own Unreal Tournament 2003/2004. A talented UT mapper by the name of Knuckles has meticulously extracted a huge range of textures from PD and accurately reproduced three maps from the Combat Simulator in UnrealEd. Skedar, Ravine and Complex all look exactly as they did in PD giving this remake one hell of an authentic look. So if you're an avid UT gamer, check out the site here to see how this mod is progressing and keep an eye on it - there's more authentic maps to come.

That Time of Year Again

Christmas comes in May for gamers around the world. With E3 upon us once more, no system has failed to deliver magnificent works of art. Metroid Prime 2, a realistic Zelda title, Halo 2, Final Fantasy XII, the Nintendo DS and Sony's PSP - it's all there. And if you haven't been back to Rare's site for a while, go there now. Conker & Kameo are back in full swing with new looks and a shoopuf-load of screens and videos. But are they alone in Rare's bag-o-tricks? There's been nary a peep to say that Kameo ain't the only lady we'll see from Rare's HQ, but if my watch is right then the first day is only about to conclude, so Rare might still have a surprise or two up their sleeves.
