The Matrix Online Beta hands-on article at GameSpy
    Print News | Mail News
As part of its ongoing coverage of The Matrix Online, GameSpy has tossed up an account of the Editor's Day event at Monolith's Washington offices, at which there was an opportunity for a few lucky journalists to jack in:

My own adventure began with a DOS-style interface that just appeared on my screen, looking for all the world as if were merely another window on my desktop. Typing in my screen name (Delsyn, natch) and my password caused the program to emit the sound effect of a dial-up modem logging in to the 'Net. Once that was concluded, I began to work on my "Residual Self-Image." Fortunately, this isn't some fancy-shmancy bit of psychological therapy, but rather the selection of what my on-screen avatar would look like.

You can check out the entirety of the article here.

The Matrix Online Preview at GameSpot
    Print News | Mail News
The recent flurry of tidbit-divulging previews continues with one that surfaced yesterday at GameSpot. One paragraph focuses on the dynamism to the skills aspect of the game:

To approach your battles in the best way possible, you may end up changing your characters' configuration and appearance. Unlike other similar games in which you're stuck with a single-character profession (like "wizard" or "sorcerer of blight"), The Matrix Online will instead let you swap out different types of skills that relate to hand-to-hand martial arts combat, firearms, and computer hacking. These skill sets are intended to let you customize your character's abilities to your needs as well as to what your teammates may need in a group adventure. For example, if you're working with a group that already has strong hand-to-hand combat skills, you may want to swap in some gun-slinging skills for yourself to provide ranged support. The developers hope that one of the game's most distinct features will be its hand-to-hand combat, as there will be a huge number of fighting animations that your characters will display while punching, kicking, blocking, and grappling with their enemies.

Take a gander at GameSpot's preview.

Monolith Press Summit Coverage at RPG Vault
    Print News | Mail News
RPG Vault Editor, Richard "Jonric" Aihoshi was recently invited to visit Monolith for a Matrix Online Press Summit. The article starts out with a brief overview of the game and the Matrix setting before going into details of the still NDA beta test and storyline work by the Wachowski brothers and comic writer Paul Chadwick.

While at Monolith, Richard was able to chat with Toby Ragaini, MxO's Creative Director, about story telling in the Matrix Online. Missions and events will be used to unlock content and further your role in the storyline. Further helping submerse you in this online world are features ranging from introductory in-engine cinematics to the in-game newspaper, The Sentinel. Other features include crafting in the shape of "coding" your craft, faction based missions, and "wire-fu" fighting.

Excited? We are! Check out RPG Vault's Matrix Online Visit Report.
