N-Query

The 'N' in N-Query stands for 'new.' Witty stuff, huh?

Reckoning

IGN,
I am hoping that you guys may be able to clear a little air concerning WWE Day of Reckoning for GC. Pre-emptive warning- this is long, so bear with me please.

There have been many (and I mean MANY) rumors and 'inside sources' on WWE DOR message boards.. people who claim to have info on the game that has not yet been made public by THQ or anyone inside THQ. This information, obviously to be taken with a grain of salt, is spreading like fire across the net'- and giving a lot of people a potentially false sense of what to expect from the game when it ships.

The rumors in question involve the revelation of a number of match types- those being a paddle-on-a-pole match, a stretcher match, and last man standing. Is there any truth to any of this (that you know of)?

Also, despite THQ's producer Nick what's-his-face stating that this years WWE product has 'all licensed and current theme music' many of the videos released thus far have generic, not-so-up-to-date themes. For example, Kane- the video released of his entrance in DOR has the old, WWE-brand generic themes, where as on TV his theme is a song by Slow chemical, "the fire still burns." So I guess what I am asking is this- are we going to get the real music or not? I appreciate any help in this matter that you can provide.
Phil

Matt responds: No truth to any of those rumors, as far as I can tell. I don't see Paddle-On-a-Pole, Stretcher, or Last Man Standing matches in the game. As to your second question, the final music has not yet been implemented, which is why you're still hearing old stuff. I can't say for sure if it'll be changed, but my feeling is that it will be.

128

What ever happened to Mario 128? Isn't it supposed to revolutionize platform gaming? What's going on Shigeru-san???

Matt responds: Sounds like it's being prepped to release with the launch of the Revolution. In a recent interview with Eiji Aonuma, who directs the new Legend of Zelda, the Nintendo developer said that though he would love to launch a new Zelda with Revolution, a new Mario game would be more likely.

GCNext

Had the press really settled on 'GCNext' as a codename before Revolution? Wasn't 'N5' much more widespread? A googling of 'Nintendo GCNext' and 'Nintendo N5' sure suggests so. (Besides, GCNext is a horrible choice considering the GameCube is commonly abbreviated GCN.) Well I guess it's somewhat moot now...but its appearence in the FAQ is kind of annoying.

Matt responds: Some crazy Nintendo-ites referred to the successor to GameCube as 'N5' for awhile. But this was never anywhere near official. In an interview, though, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata actually called the console 'GCNext.' This is the only reason some members of the press, myself included, clung to it.

Rockin' with Reggie

Hello IGN,
I thought you'd find the following Nintendo tribute song funny:

My brother created it as a laugh after watching the Nintendo E3 2004 conference.

Enjoy,

Chris (Insider member ChrisG-UK)

Matt responds: Rock on with the Reggie-Lution, my friend.

Name that Tune

I just wondered what the song that is played in the new "grown up" Zelda trailer is called, and the game looks great by the way!! Fran sucks, and Tingle should die horribly slow and painful, with that said please answer my question this time!!

Matt responds: The song was created for the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack by composer Basil Poledouris.

Play It

Matt,

You said in the latest N-Query that games that are not playable cannot be considered for the majority of the categories for the E3 awards. How then do you explain the PSP winning? It wasn't playable. The demos they had weren't actually games and they weren't even running on real boards. What's your take on the awards that were doled out? And why did Prime 2 and RE4 get overlooked?

Matt responds: You're preaching to the choir. I completely agree. If you read my post-E3 impressions, you know that I was completely disappointed by the presentation of Sony's PSP simply because it wasn't very playable. I write "very playable" because it did function. You could manipulate data with the device. But there were not what I would call playable games running on it. I suppose that the deciding party of the awards in question felt that the demonstration of functionality was enough, and to many it was.

As for Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime 2, I'm not entirely sure. It's a damn shame because both games were fantabulous.

Compatible

Hasn't Nintendo said at one point that their next system will be backwards compatible? I am sure that I read this somewhere, and if so, this should also be included in the FAQ.

Matt responds: I don't believe that Nintendo has said that. If so, it'd be news to me.
